Pueblo Viejo Project
Installation and Commissioning of the Fire Systems at Barrick Gold’s Pueblo Viejo Gold Mine, located in the Dominican Republic, was completed in 2012. The project scope included a 40+ node integrated Fire Alarm Network in addition to Fire Protection and Suppression for critical processing facilities including, materials handling, crushing and grinding circuits, power distribution and major infrastructure.
The fire systems located at Pueblo Viejo are state of the art and utilize almost 130km of fibre optic cable to communicate. This fire system has the capacity for remote access allowing for offsite diagnostics to be communicated to the onsite technicians, and includes an annunciator panel located in the Emergency Response Building allowing for rapid response.
FSS’ previous experience with Barrick operations in Papua New Guinea, Australia and Chile was a deciding factor in our appointment to the US$3.7 billion Project. FSS Canada undertook the detailed design and engineering of the project fire services, in conjunction with Barrick and their EPCM Contractors, Fluor Canada and Hatch in Vancouver and Toronto.
