: achievements Fire and safety standard for Mobile Mining Equipment FSS was commissioned by the Open Cut Committee of the Australian Coal Association Research Program to research the occurrence of fires on mobile mining machines. This extensive study led to recommendations by FSS; and subsequently these recommendations were put forward to the Australian Standards committee whereby a draft standard (AS 5062) has since been developed and is currently in the approval stages for publication for fire prevention measures required on mobile mining equipment. NFPA standards Doug Pickersgill was one of only two non-US citizens to contribute to the development of NFPA 2001, the most widely used standard covering the introduction and use of ‘clean agents’ following the demise of Halon gases. Doug was also involved in developing NFPA 750, a standard dealing with water mist system technologies. |
